Reserve now for Deco Dinner & Theater!

Deadline for reservations Monday, March 15

Lady Be Good, Thursday, April 15, 6:00pm -10:30pm

Join your fellow ADSC members for an exciting evening of dining and theatre: Supper at L'Olivier followed by 42nd Street Moons production of that smash 20s hit "Lady, Be Good."

Gather for a pre-dinner reception at 6 pm in L'Olivier's Le Jardin room (reserved exclusively for ADSC). Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine while one of the creative staff from 42nd Street Moon provides a short introduction to the evenings musical. Our three course meal will include a salad, choice of main course (salmon, chicken, or vegetarian) and dessert. (Additional alcoholic beverages are no-host.) Following dinner, it is a short walk (one block) to the Eureka Theatre where we will be seated in center row seats for "Lady, Be Good." With music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, enjoy such classics as Fascinating Rhythm and Lady, Be Good, in a show written for Fred and Adele Astaire and which was the breakthrough Broadway success for the Gershwins.

The total cost for the pre-dinner reception, dinner, and show is $79 per person. This event requires a minimum of 20 participants. Both 42nd Street Moon and L'Olivier restaurant have agreed, respectively, to reserve theatre seats and Le Jardin room for our group until March 15. If you are interested in attending the evenings festivities, please either call us at 415-982-DECO (3326) to reserve your tickets with a credit card or send a check for $79/per person or purchase on PayPal (below). All payments must be received NO LATER THAN Monday March 15, 2010. Checks can be mailed to: Art Deco Society of California 100 Bush Street, Suite 511 San Francisco, CA 94104 Note "Lady Be Good" on the check and include your contact information with the check. (If you're mailing a check, please leave us a phone message at 415-982-3326 also, to let us know!)

You will be advised by March 17th if the event has been fully subscribed and will take place. (If not, your check will be returned to you or your card will not be charged.) Pre-dinner Reception at 6 pm; Dinner at 6:15 pm; Curtain: 8:00 pm.

Music at the Movies

We're pulling out all the stops for this great event, which will feature the Paramount Theatre's celebrated "Mighty Wurlitzer" pipe organ and one of the greatest - and funniest - silent movies ever made, Buster Keaton's The General. Highly acclaimed concert organist Christoph Bull, who has been University Organist and Professor at UCLA since 2002, will play his own original score to The General. Bull's dramatic score, which blends seamlessly with the train chases and breath-taking stunt work shown on-screen, will add color and excitement to Keaton's comic masterpiece. Bull will also join the orchestra on the second half of the program for a performance of Saint Saens' powerful "Organ Symphony", a work widely recognized as the main theme in the 1995 Academy Award-winning movie Babe. This combination of classic and popular film, pipe organ and orchestra will make this event a uniquely Paramount Theatre experience!

Proof that love of Art Deco isn't just for luddites

Jeffrey_Stephenson_Ingraham

Meet Jeffrey Stephenson, Sailor, Engineer, Accountant, IT Director, Land Baron and creator of extraordinary Art Deco inspired computers.

Meet Jeffrey in person at the Exploratorium, February 11, 12 and 13 for the "Rods & Mods" show. You can see his work and meet like minded computer customizers.

The ADSC delivered a quick Q&A with the designer (via email and Facebook as we aren't luddites either - not that there's anything wrong with that . . .).

Read more about this artist and his work in our Deco Life section.
